Cross country family relationships and an upset mother?

My mom is all freaked out about me moving from California to New York to start my education for nursing and because I am moving there with my fiance who is originally from there (upstate that is). I think the main reason why is because she says that she wont be there when I have babies and such. I told her that if I stay in California I will never want to have kids because its a 4 year wait for nursing school where I wanted to go and I don't wanna raise my kids in a condo (its WAY too expensive for me to live in California) so I would refuse to have them and just get a dog lol. So I guess what my question is, is do you think she is being fair in her anger towards me moving and if you are this far away from your mother/father/family how do you handle it, do your parents mind, and if you are a parent would you be this upset? Just need some opinions.
