Firefighters/Firefighters wives....?

I grew up in a family of firefighters. My father, grandfather, and uncle are all firemen. I can say that I know most of the in's and out's of the business. Now, I am engaged to a wonderful guy who is an aspiring fireman and is currently volunteering here in our hometown. I love firefighters and the work they do, I am a proud firefighters daughter and I respect them and their duty from the bottom of my heart. BUT, its long hours, its hard work, and it takes a toll on and person and their family. We sometimes fight about how often and how long he is away from home. He is about to start paramedic school which we are both dreading. He often reconsiders what he is doing with his life and I feel like he would rather "settle" for something he doesn't really care to do and work an 8 to 5 somewhere rather than have the problems we do. I know he loves what he does and I want him to feel like I support him 100%. I just don't know how to do that when I too am hesitant.
